Located 33 kilometres west of Charters Towers along the Flinders Highway, Balfes Creek is a very small town with a long history. With the arrival of the Great Northern Railway in 1883, Balfes Creek became the original rail and road junction for this basalt country and further north. Dairies in the area once supplied milk to Charters Towers and Chinese market gardens once flourished here.
